“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
~ Carl Rogers
The Road Less Traveled by Scott Peck begins with the words “Life is difficult.” There’s no doubt to any of us that he was right! The good news is that we don’t have to figure out the most challenging parts of our lives by ourselves. In many ways, having personal and professional support from another person is crucial to our emotional and mental health, and to our growth. When it seems too tough to do it on our own, we can choose to work with someone to help us navigate through these hardships and life in general.
Growing up, most of us received clear instructions for the many tasks required from life, but very little instruction on how to live more fully and peacefully. Counselors are trained professionals who can help you explore and discover ways to live this way.
During our sessions, through dialogue, exercises, and self-exploration, you will be encouraged to be more authentically you, the WHOLE you! When you begin to understand and accept yourself more holistically and unconditionally, you begin learning to use your personal failures and difficulties as opportunities for growth. Our counseling goal is not to eliminate stressors and unpleasant emotions, because those will always exist in our lives. Our goal instead becomes to change our relationship with them, which is achieved through self-awareness and personal transformation. In other words, we will work from the inside out.

My approach to counseling sessions is greatly influenced by Person-Centered Therapy, created by Carl Rogers. As your therapist, through a genuine and empathetic relationship, I will always strive to create a trusting space in which you can explore and understand yourself with more depth and clarity. I also utilize various ideas and methods borrowed from other respected approaches to psychological well-being, including Cognitive-Behavioral Psychology, Positive Psychology, and mindfulness practice.
If you are additionally interested in exploring your spirituality, I can also assist with this purpose. I will not propose nor favor any particular spiritual traditions nor practices, but I can help you dive deeper into your own.
As honestly as possible, ask yourself why you landed on this page. If you sense yourself at a point in your journey during which you are inspired to create some lasting change, I hope that you will reach out to me or to one of my colleagues. If not, my wish is for you to find some other ways to take care of yourself and to be well.
